Homemade skin care recipes
Home page

I look for homemade skin care recipes for natural skin care using all natural ingredients. Everyone will experience different results. Try a recipe for a week or two and if this is not working try another one.
I try to use organic ingredients as much as I can. Tests have shown that plants that have been raised organically almost always have a higher concentration of healthful healing substances than their conventionally grown counterparts.

As you read through these different recipes realize that you can ad or leave out some of the ingredients. Or change the amount that you put in. Have fun with them !!! Also see the Nemacolin Woodlands Resort Spa Secrets under home spa...

Mountain Rose Herbs. A herbs, health and harmony company. Since 1987

Since 1987 Mountain Rose Herbs has become the Leading Organic Supplier in not only the finest organic botanical products, but the freshest as well. From their bulk organic herbs and spices, to their essential oils and herbal teas, the quality and integrity of what they offer is unparalleled. In fact, we firmly believe nobody can deliver a better product.

Natural skin care does not have to be complex. You will find some recipes with only 2 or 3 ingredients. I have found that even one ingredient has many benefits. Just take Lavender it is a antiseptic, good cleansing, and great calming properties.

Making up your own homemade skin care recipes is just part of the whole experience. You will find new scents that will carry the whole day through. You and your skin will have a new glow. And to get started the kitchen is only a few steps away!

Below you will find 36 pages of Recipes and Articles to help you!!

When mixing, poring, heating, and measuring homemade skin care recipes, keep your work place from getting out of hand. If it gets to the floor you will like the shine but hold on to the kitchen sink!!!! Not that a guy would do that to his wife's kitchen. Keep your work area clean. Also keep a note pad around as you will make changes to these recipes. PERSONALIZED I've got a couple great jars of hand butter and no idea what the amounts of the ingredients are.

Equipment
Most of these things you will already have in your kitchen. Although we set aside our utensils and supplies in a seperate cabinet.

A Good glass measuring cup, one that can go into the microwave.

Measuring spoons

Glass eye dropper. I keep a dozen around if I can't get the smell of an essential oil out of it, I will just use it for that oil.

A small kitchen scale

Stainless or glass mixing bowls. I Like stainless just for the drop facter.

Stainless wisk for mixing

Funnel

Strainer

Spatulas

Pestle and Mortar

A blender or food processor

Plastic molds, either candy or cookie, they are good because thay are small. A good jar to start with is baby food jars. Try to keep all jars or molds under 2 OZ.

I heat most everything in the micro, if you use the stove top use a double boiler.

Now do not go out and buy all these tools, you will find you have most of them already. Besides you need something to buy when you get invited to those kitchen parties. ggg

Skin Patch Test

by Jeanne Rose

Skin Patch Test

from the Herbal Body Book, by Jeanne Rose

The Patch Test

If you have sensitive skin or a history of allergies, then by all means use a patch test to test your relative sensitivity to the new ingredients. To try out a new store bought cosmetic, a homemade cosmetic, or any new plant that you are unfamiliar with when making your own cosmetics, make a paste of the plant with water and apply to your forearm in an area about the size of a quarter. Let the paste dry there and apply a loose band-aide. If there is no reaction within twenty four hours, go ahead and use the plant or cosmetic. Apply creams and lotions to the forearm directly, apply band-aide for twenty four hours and check for reaction. By all means, keep all alien substances away from the eyes.

Bath and Face Recipes with Honey

Honey is one ingredient that can be use in all natural skin care recipes. From your hair care to your foot scrub. I use sesame seed oil in my lip balm which has a nutty flavor so I use a drop or two of honey. Here Sharon takes it to the bath and face. And like Sharon I use whole milk powder in baths. You will always have it.

Homemade Skin Care Recipes for the Bath:

Need to cool off and give your skin it's vitamin C? A orange juice bath will do both. All you will need is 2 to 3 ripe oranges and 2 to 3 fresh lemons. In a tub filled with warm water squeeze the juice from the cut oranges and lemons into thw water. If you like you can slice the oranges and lemons and have them float on top of the water. Soak for 15 to 20 minutes. After pat your skin with a towel lightly. The vitamin C will absorb into the skin, leaving you feeling refreshed.

Homemade Skin Care Recipes for the Face:

Well my two boy's Ben and Cam will not eat their Carrots. As for Wayne'r I can take them or leave them, that is cooked. But carrots are rich in vitamin A and make a wonderful facial. You will need 1 or 2 cooked mashed carrots, 1/2 teaspoon wheat germ oil, 1 to 2 teaspoons honey and 2 drops geranium oil, you can leave out the geranium oil if you want. Mix all of the ingredients in a bowl and right on to your face. Leave it on for 20 minutes the rinse off with cool water. This recipe is good for teaching the kids to clean up the kitchen and gives you a reason to stay in the kitchen to make sure it is done right. Best of all, you get a FACIAL!!!

Homemade Skin Care Recipes Using Avocado :

Homemade Avocado Facial Mask Video

Women in Mexico have been using the avocado for their skin for thousands of years. It contains vitamin E and is extremely mourishing. For this recipe you will need 1 average sized avocado (mashed) 1 ripe banana ( also mashed ) and 1 teaspoon of honey.
Mix in a small bowl all of the ingredients until smooth. Apply to face with your hands. Leave this creamy mixture on for 15 to 20 minutes. Then rinse your face with cool water. You can label the left overs and keep them in the refigerater.

Avocado Skin Care Recipes

These Avocado recipes can use my favorite carrier oils almond oil, grape seed and sesame oil. As you will see you can use another oil if you do not have the one listed in a recipe. I have not used avocado oil before I've just used the avocado. It sounds like it is time to pick up the oil, it will last a lot longer in a recipe.

Homemade Skin Care Recipes for the Body, and Hands :

From South Africa

MOISTURIZING BODY SCRUB
To make this BODY SCRUB
50 ml olive oil
20 gr shea butter
6 gr beeswax
1 3/4 shooter glass of sea salt

Place olive oil, shea butter and beeswax in a Pyrex jug over double boiler and gently heat until beeswax and shea butter are just melted. Let it cool and then add sea salt. Store in a clean jar.

After showering and drying, massage the scrub all over the body (avoiding face and neck) and rinse. Skin will feel soft, moisturized and wonderfully stimulated.

There was no name sent in with this recipe but I would like to say Thank You and Best Wish to those of you from South Africa..

This recipe is for the hands. And is best used at night with gloves. As for Wayne'r, I do not ware gloves at night! But when I'm painting airplanes and cleaning out the spray guns with thinner my hands get real dryed out. After getting all of the paint off my hands and the thinner cleaned up. Time for a good Hand Oil. For this hand oil recipe you will need:
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 tablespoon sesame oil
1 tablespoon alomed oil
1 vitamin E capsules
1 teaspoon glycerin
1 teaspoon honey

In the micro heat the honey until it is runny, do not let it boil. Then ad the oils, vitamin E, and glycerin. Stir until thoroughly combined, then store. I put mine in left over hotel shampoo bottles. I will make a bigger batch. Then I have some in the tool box at the hanger, shaving kit when I fly, and at home. You can ad an essential oil if you want.

Recipe's for the Body
In looking around the internet and in books for homemade skin care recipes, these SKIN CARE TIPS are simple and won't break the bank to get started. I try to find ingredients that are new. "Why did I not think of that." Some will look simple and still will not come out quite right. For me the creams still come out lumpy. Although it's fun to try! Give some of these homemade skin care recipes a try.

Here are some good recipes you can use for your own home spa from one of the best spas in Pannsylvania...

WTAE Channel 4 Action News has the spa secrets that are sure to put the calm in your rest and relaxation.

WTAE Channel 4 anchor Michelle Wright was pampered at the Woodlands Spa at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort, where she learned of the best recipes, yoga moves, facials and body scrubs that you can use without ever leaving home.

Yoga is the best way to start, Wright said.

Wellness Coordinator Jim Barnes said one type of sun salutation would boost your energy by getting your blood going, especially to your spine.

"If you wake up in the morning and you stretch, you relieve some tension," said Barnes. "You increase your energy. Whatever you do, any type of movement is good before work."

A few moves are stretching up and then going down.

On the floor, you can use what's called the cobra, followed by the famous yoga move, down dog.

Now that your blood is flowing, it's time for breakfast.

Executive chef and head of Nemacolin's new culinary school, Jeremy Critchfield, whipped up a yogurt and fruit smoothie and oatmeal soufflé.

The oatmeal is great, because those complex carbohydrates will keep your energy constant all day.

And all the protein in the yogurt and antioxidants in the fruit make for a perfect breakfast.

Next, Wright headed to the spa for a before-lunch facial.

She said anyone could do the treatments with ingredients from their cabinet.

Crush up some blueberries and then add raspberries.

Raspberries are good for calming your skin and reducing redness.

Then dump in some yogurt and a tablespoon of honey for hydration.

After mixing the ingredients, apply it.

Make sure your face is well cleansed. Having a clean face is a must in the morning and at night.

Next, brush on the mars and let it sit for 10 minutes before washing it off.

The mark will hydrate your skin, moisturize it and calm it down.

Next on the agenda was lunch: salmon and spinach salad.

Nemacolin made the dish by putting dry roasted coriander on the salmon before putting it on the stovetop on low heat.

They said they use grape seed oil instead of olive oil for cooking, because it has a higher smoke temperature.

Next, get to work on the salad, which includes fresh raspberries.

The specialty dish is designed to make your body feel good all day. The iron in the spinach is wonderful and so is the omega-3 fatty acid in the salmon.

Wright's itinerary took her back to the spa after lunch for a body scrub.

Her options were a harsher one with salt, olive oil and eight drops of lavender or a milder version with brown sugar, olive oil, ginger and limejuice.

For either one, you want to do long strokes and then little, circular movements to get the scrub to pull the dead skin off the body.

You can finish up the day with a wonderful dinner. Wright was served pork tenderloin, crushed potatoes and roasted endive.

Fresh parsley is great for potatoes and a bit of apple is perfect with the endive, which is great for your energy and attitude.

The slow-burning complex carbohydrates keep your energy levels up you don't have those peaks and valleys that destroy your concentration and make you tired.
